Building a network of community-owned solar across Middleton
We’re developing solar projects on some of Middleton’s largest roofs, creating the foundations of a local energy network owned for community benefit.
Generate more locally. Use more locally. Keep more of the value in Middleton.
Could your roof be part of it?
How community energy works:
- You provide the roof.
- We provide the solar.
- You buy the electricity it generates at a price designed to be lower than grid electricity.
There’s no upfront or ongoing cost for the panels. Middleton Community Energy finances, owns and maintains the system.
This model is already used by community energy groups across the UK to help schools and other organisations access cheaper, locally generated power.
You buy the power, not the panels, and more of the value stays local.
Part of a wider community energy movement
Middleton Community Energy is a member of Community Energy England, connecting us with community energy organisations across the country that are developing locally owned renewable energy projects.
“Supporting the local development of community energy projects has positive impacts on equality, social cohesion and economic opportunity.”
Community-owned solar is already being used by schools, community buildings and local organisations across the UK.
We’re bringing that model to Middleton.
